Australia's math competition tradition began with the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) in 1978, which grew to become one of the world's largest competitions and directly inspired the creation of Math Kangaroo. The Australian Mathematics Trust manages the full pipeline from AMC through to IMO team selection. Over 400,000 students from Australia and 30+ countries participate in the AMC annually.
